Using the magic of 3D modelling technology, this map of the Firth of Clyde, including Glasgow, the Isle of Bute and Great Cumbrae, has been restored from a 1933 map by the Edinburgh-based cartographers John Bartholomew and Son Limited. The original print has been scanned using a museum-quality scanner, colour-corrected, and carefully restored to remove damage, while still retaining the feel of the original vintage map. The map has then been combined with satellite data to produce a strikingly realistic relief effect.
The technique used is particularly effective for the corrugated, sea-threaded coastline of this beautiful part of Scotland.
